Benefits of a Platform Body

We offer three types of platform truck bodies to best serve our customers: the pickup delete, cab chassis and the HD. Each of these platform beds is engineered for toughness and durability. They’ve been jobsite tested and structured to handle even the harshest of loads. Below are 10 key benefits to a DuraMag platform body:

1. DuraMag platform bodies are super strong yet lighter weight.

We strongly believe that aluminum truck bodies are superior to those made of steel. We’ve outlined the numerous benefits to aluminum vs. steel here and here in our blog, and major companies like Ford Motor Company and Forbes agree with us.

Still not sure?

“… What’s less well-understood is that aluminum can also be some of the toughest stuff on earth. Often, the metal is used in applications where high-strength and durability are the most important considerations – from cars and trucks to building material to military vehicles. You likely trust aluminum to keep you safe and secure dozens of times a day without even knowing it.” Read this entire article »

2. Our platform bodies have a higher payload capacity than steel bodies.

Did You Know? Aluminum truck bodies can weigh 40% less than steel? This translates to more materials and cargo being hauled in fewer trips, less drivers needed for your company and ultimately less trucks required for your jobs. This does not mean weaker truck beds and bodies, however. According to the engineers behind the new Ford F-150, “… you can just choose to heat-treat (the truck bed) to a strength and replace a steel part that just happened to not be as strong… you can also just add gauge [i.e. make it thicker]. Aluminum being a third as dense as steel, you can have three times the thickness before you have the same weight as steel…” (Forbes.com).

3. Our truck bodies are durable- it’s as simple as that.

The Proof You’ve Been Asking For…The REAL dirt on Aluminum v Steel

“… People are asking, “How do you have more dent and ding resistance?” Well, aluminum actually has better properties for dent and ding resistance, but we can also just up-gauge it another tenth of a millimeter and still save 40 percent of the weight.” (Forbes.com)

4. Our platform beds are all pre-wired with LED lights inside box tube.

All DuraMag beds have LED lights with a wire harness that uses heat shrink butt connectors. All lights are rubber mounted in box tube extrusion that protects them from corrosion and damage. This is a significant consideration as “wiring exposed to the elements” is right behind “rust” in important considerations to minimize future problems. Safety, durability and convenience are among our top priorities.

5. Our Pickup Delete Platform Bodies include tongue & groove reinforced extruded aluminum flooring.

We spared no detail when designing this platform body. In addition, this model includes an extruded aluminum headboard with accessory track as well. Learn more about our Pickup Delete Platform Bodies here »

6. DuraMag truck bodies and beds are competitive with steel truck bodies.

The days of steel truck accessories and parts costing significantly less than aluminum are no longer. Furthermore, a DuraMag truck body generally increases the value of your truck at time of re-sale as well. Buyers simply do not want an outdated, rusty steel body. Aluminum bodies often out-live the life of a work truck and can be transported onto a second truck when needed.

7. DuraMag truck bodies can be fully customized.

If your company has a specific need, our designers will work with you to create a custom truck body solution for your application. If you can dream it, we can design it. 8. Our platform beds offer a more environmentally-friendly manufacturing process.

Lighter truck bodies simply help move the work truck industry towards sustainability. Organizations like the Green Truck Association (GTA) and its Lightweight Technology Council continue to educate and inform members of the work truck industry on equipment and technology improvements to promote commercial vehicle fuel savings. Lighter truck bodies, such as those made out of aluminum, help move the truck market towards friendlier solutions for the environment, while still meeting real-world demands for businesses.

9. A DuraMag aluminum platform body = lower fuel consumption (than our competitors’ steel bodies).

As we’ve mentioned previously, a lighter truck body means more payload per haul. This equals less time spent driving, less gas consumed and less wear and tear on company vehicles, annually. Most importantly, it means serious gas savings over the course of a year!

10. Our Platform Bodies cut out the rust. Unlike steel, aluminum doesn’t deteriorate overtime.

Aluminum has increased corrosion resistance. Unlike steel, aluminum doesn’t deteriorate overtime. On steel bodies, if the barrier deteriorates between an aluminum skin and the steel sub frame, the body deteriorates fast – Mylar tape to avoid contact between aluminum and steel clearly doesn’t work long term.
